But the chasing pack maintained their pace; of the top eight, only West Bromwich Albion dropped points, losing heavily at Manchester City.

Tottenham will be disappointed to have lost away to the bottom club, Sheffield Wednesday, whilst the "four-pointer" relegation clash between Newcastle and Sunderland ended all-square.
