Reds Arrive To Find Belgrade In The Grip Of Winter

3 February 1958, 19:12

Manchester United's players and staff have arrived in a wintry Belgrade for Wednesday's European Cup tie.

The club's privately-chartered BEA aircraft took off from Ringway this morning, and after a refuelling stop in Munich, flew on to Yugoslavia.

Landing in Belgrade proved to be something of a challenge; the runway was obscured by snow, visibility was poor and the cloud cover was low. Thanks to some skillful piloting, however, the aeroplane touched down safely and the party from England was escorted to their hotel.

Tomorrow the players will visit Red Star Belgrade's home ground , the Stadium of the Partisan Army, in preparation for the match on Wednesday.
