"Sekki" Ready To Defy Reds

4 February 1958, 14:02

A twenty-one-year-old Yugoslav by the name of Dragoslav Sekularac is ready to torment the Manchester United defence tomorrow, as the Reds attempt to maintain a slender one-goal advantage in the European Cup quarter-final.

Red Star Belgrade's young inside-right certainly caught the eye in the first leg at Old Trafford, and Roger Byrne and company will have their work cut out stopping him.

His rapport with fellow forward Bora Kostic is already justly feared throughout Europe. Sekularac's passing has created many a fine goal for his attacking partners, but he also possesses outstanding dribbling skills, which allow him to create chances for himself as well as space for others.

United know that they will need to defend bravely in front of what is likely to be a hostile and partisan crowd, but can draw some comfort from Sekularac's reputation as the possessor of a volatile temparament. As is often the case with the most gifted players, Sekularac can sometimes become moody and even angry if the game does not go his way. If United can stifle his skills for the early part of the match, or maybe even take the lead, then the youngster, for all his talent, may find it difficult to produce his best.
