When Tommy Taylor signed for United in March 1953, he became the club's record signing, an honour he still retains today. Even at that fee, though, Matt Busby must feel he got a bargain - at the end of last season, Inter Milan offered an astronomical fee of £65,000 for the Yorkshireman, but Busby turned it down.
Taylor is a powerful centre-forward with awesome heading ability. He scored on his United debut against Preston with a stunning header, and has continued to find the net freely ever since, averaging two goals every three games. His international record is even more impressive - to date Taylor has notched 16 goals in 19 appearances for England. |
