Bobby Charlton

Bobby Charlton

Position: Inside left

Born: Ashington, Northumberland, 11 November 1937

Previous club: None

Debut: Charlton Athletic (H), 6 October 1956

Charlton joined Manchester United as an amateur in January 1953. Two years later, on his 17th birthday, he turned professional and the same season helped United to lift the FA Youth Cup. His full debut, against (appropriately enough) Charlton Athletic in October 1956, saw him take the place of injured centre forward Tommy Taylor, and Charlton marked the occasion with two goals.

Nowadays occupying the inside left position in United's first team, Charlton is an elegant attacking player, with a good eye for the telling pass and a fierce shot. His first England cap can't be far away.
